Cambridge Cambourne 10k and Fun Run
Cambourne Business Park, Cambourne, Cambridgeshire, CB23 6DW
We are pleased that the Cambridge Cambourne 10k is back once again in 2021. In the light of the current COVID situation we have made a number of changes to the event organisation to ensure the safety of all participants, staff and volunteers, these are summarised in the separate ‘COVID-19 Safety’ tab – please take a moment to read this information.
For 2021 we have also partnered with Active Training World who are managing the event bookings, race timing, results etc. on our behalf. We hope that everyone will once again enjoy participating in our annual running event.
Cambridge Cambourne 10k – 26th September 2021
The Cambridge Cambourne 10k appeals to runners of all levels: from new runners to the more experienced. The distance is long enough to be challenging, but short enough to be accessible to anyone with the determination to put in a bit of training.
Its sister event, the Cambridge Cambourne Fun Run, is ideal for younger runners or those not ready for the longer distance.
Lovely rural course
The course passes through wooded areas and alongside lakes. It is almost entirely off road and traffic-free, on proper footpaths – better for your legs than tarmac. The finish must be one of the most inspiring in the country.
An opportunity for sightseeing too
Competitors from outside the local area can take this opportunity to have a first-class run in great scenery in the morning and take time out to visit the beautiful, historic City of Cambridge in the afternoon.
A memorable event
– Quality medal for everyone
– Individual chip timing
– Race results posted on event website
Each year, the race proves to be an exciting event for the whole community and a pleasure for all concerned, both runners and helpers. There have been a number of organisational changes introduced for the 2021 Cambridge Cambourne 10k and Fun Run to ensure the safety of all participants, including runners, volunteers, staff and spectators. We are following the current guidelines issued by the government and UK Athletics for such events, and the situation will be closely monitored in the run up to the event. If conditions change and it is not possible to hold the event in 2021 then all runners will be given the option to defer their entry to 2022. [Unfortunately it will not be possible to refund entry fees – need to check and agree whether this will be our policy]
For 2021 changes include the following:
- Wave starts – runners will be asked to predict their finishing time and they will be set off in waves at regular intervals to ensure that social distancing rules can be followed. Chip timing will be used to ensure that runners receive an accurate record of their time and race position.
- Registration – there will be no registration or race number collection on the day, participants will receive their race numbers by post beforehand, together with a briefing document summarising the race day organisation
- Results – will not be available on the day but will be posted on the event website
- Baggage Storage – will not be available
- Water – all participants are asked to bring their own water and food as required. There will be limited supplies of bottled water at the finish but participants are requested to use their own supplies wherever possible
- Prizes – unfortunately it will not be possible to give out prizes this year
- Spectators – to help with maintaining social distancing we request that if possible you do not bring spectators
- Hand gel – there will be a large number of disinfectant hand gel stations in the start/finish/toilets area and at strategic locations on the course
These changes are subject to national and local restrictions in place at the time of the event.

The Cambridge Cambourne 10k is run entirely by volunteers on a non-profit basis. When the Cambridge Cambourne 10k was initially setup it was decided that any surplus from the race should be donated to a local charity. We try to choose a relatively small charity for whom our donation can make a significant difference and, in return, the charity helps out on race day – along with a dedicated team of helpers from Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club, members of the local Cadet Force and local school PTAs – by providing marshals.
Over the years we have made donations to Arthur Rank Maggies, EACH, Anna’s Hope, Teenage Cancer Trust, Red Balloon Learner Centres, Cam Sight, Cambridge city Foodbank, Jimmy’s Cambridge and Papworth Trust.
This partnership arrangement continues to work well and one of the real pleasures of organising the race is meeting and working alongside the staff and volunteers of our nominated charities. These are special people and seeing them at work, hearing their stories and learning more about what they do is a humbling experience.
So, as we look forward to welcoming all the runners for this year’s race, we remember not only the hundreds of smiling faces of the spectators and the competitors as they cross the finishing line but also the warmth, humility and friendship which our charity workers bring and the huge respect and admiration we have for them.
