View from the Chair – June 2020

Dear all,

I hope you are all starting to feel a little more optimistic as the total lockdown is gradually lifting (as of 1st week of June at least).

England Athletics has been issuing guidelines as and when government updates allow. The latest can be found here:

https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/coronavirus-statement/

The university too is looking to open up its operations gradually and we have been in contact with them. As of early June, the facilities are still shut but as soon as this changes we will update you all. They are working hard to put in place plans to address staff and users’ safety – it is a difficult challenge to meet the requirements that EA has put on facility providers and to meet the University’s internal guidelines.

The initial step is likely to be small with a very restricted number of people allowed on site and limits on what equipment can be used.  We look forward to this step towards normality for athletics, but in the meantime, I hope you’ve been able to continue with some training in gardens or nearby parks.

Hopefully, I’ll be able to report on an improving situation in July.

All the best,

Keith Clarke
