Thurgood and Godfrey Selected for England

Ten days ago, on Sunday 19th November, runners gathered for the Brighton 10K, self-described as “a big city race with a super friendly vibe, run over a fast and flat route.” What’s not to like?

However, this seemingly innocent race had a serious side, as a qualification race for England Masters Teams.

In extremely windy conditions at Brighton (gusts of over 40 mph!) Stef Godfrey and Clare Thurgood had hopes of qualifying for the National Masters Team. To do, so they had to finish in the top 3 of their Age Group, and also within a pre-set qualifying time.
Both athletes ran really well: Clare ran 37:32, and Stef 43:03. Stef was 3rd in her age group, and it looks like Clare was 4th, but in an exciting twist, one of the athletes ahead of Clare turned out not be registered. We awaited confirmation on with bated breath.
As of today, 29th November, we are delighted to confirm both Clare and Stef’s selection for England, as a result of their performances at Brighton. They will run for England in the Birmingham 10k next May. Big congratulations to them both, we look forward to supporting them on their journey to Brum.
