The Glorious Twelfth (and Thirteenth)
C&C had 4 athletes competing in the BMC event in Manchester on 12th August 2023. Hannah Irwin was in the 5000m, Thomas Keen in the 800m, and Alex Melloy and Tom Bridger in the 1500m.
Alex and Tom both had good runs in the 1500m with strong finishing times of 3:44 and 3:55 respectively. It is great to see Tom competing so well again so soon after his recent injury.
Thomas Keen ran a season’s best to come 4th in his 800m race, finishing within a second of the winner, with a time of 1:46.70.
Hannah won the 5000m race. Her time of 15:40 was a Personal Best, beating her previous time by more than 5 seconds. She was 12 seconds ahead of her nearest rival, had she been pushed harder Hannah feels that she could have produced an even faster time.
Then, on Sunday 13th August,, Paul Lambrecht obtained a silver medal in the 200m (U17M) of the championships of the South of England Athletics Association (SEAA), which took place in Lee Valley. Paul’s time in the final was 22.98s despite a strong headwind of -2.5. The day before Paul also finished sixth in the final of the 100m at the SEAA.
