PETE’S POST – JANUARY 2023

As one year ends and a new one begins, this is an excellent time to reflect on the past 12 months. How did 2022 go for you? Did you achieve what you wanted to? Can you learn from any mistakes made, and do things better in 2023? This is a great time as well, to give some thoughts to the year ahead. What are your goals? What do you want to achieve?
However 2022 went for you, this is a time for optimism, a fresh start, a time to believe. Set your goals, whatever they are, and go for them with determination! You can do it!

To help you along the way are our fantastic team of club coaches. That team will be strengthened even more by another 7 volunteers who  recently took their first step onto the coaching ladder. Well done to all of you, welcome aboard! We hope that your coaching careers are long and successful.

As you will have seen from recent posts, we are also calling for volunteers to strengthen our Welfare team. Thank you so much to those that have responded; if you think you might have time to join us, please let me know. We want to have a really strong team to cover this area, and, as with the coaching, the more people that are involved the more the task is shared. Please do consider it and get in touch to find out more. Thank you.

Also, just to give an update on the proposed Cambridge Congestion Charging Zone. A message has been released by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (G.C.P.) in which they state that they have received more than 23,000 responses! So they have a lot to digest!
We have commented on specific proposals which affect club training sessions and we want to work with the G.C.P. to find a win:win situation that suits all parties. They have welcomed our response, and are keen to work with us.

Now, some congratulations are in order.
Firstly, to the following members that set new club/age group records in 2022. C&C was formed in 1961, so when you think of the thousands of athletes that have past through our ranks over that time, to set a new record, or to remain as the holder of one, is quite an achievement.

Well done to:
Ellie Looseley, Adam Cross, Lilla-Belle Nacca, Leah Wagstaff, Jasmine Christmas, Samantha Horman, Thomas Keen, Samuel Clarke, Kristiaan Winkel, Jack Nicholls, Hannah Irwin, Stacy McGivern, Sullivan Smith, Ian Slack, and Michael Hausler.

Congratulations as well to Callum Elson who qualified for his first G.B. vest with a storming run in the trials at Liverpool. He ran for G.B. in Turin, putting in another fine performance, this resulted in him being selected to run for England in the Elgoibar International in January. Callum puts much of his success, and recent improvement, down to the quality of C&C athletes that are pushing him, as well as the coaching he is receiving.

Many congratulations to our athletes selected for the England Athletics Talent Programme (already reported on the Club website).

Well done also to Sarah Wightman who will be joining already qualified Nicola McBride running for the England Masters Team in the Chester 10k in March.

Finally, a great C&C team win in the St Neots Half Marathon with Adam Tapley (1st), Matt Slater (3rd) and Fred Krylander (6th) dominating proceedings!

Have a wonderful 2023. Let’s all play our part in making it a great one for Cambridge and Coleridge A.C.
