Medals at Chelmsford Senior Champs ’23

Three C&C athletes took part in the England Athletics Senior Championships at Chelmsford over the weekend. Jack Gray was in the 5000m, Adam Cross in the 100 and 200m sprints, and Samual Clarke was in the 400m and 110m Hurdles.
While Adam and Sam had heats to negotiate on the Saturday, Jack, who won the National 5k Road Running Championships earlier in the year, was straight into his 5000m final. In a tactical race, he came a magnificent second to take the National silver medal in a time of 14:23.95.
Adam qualified for the 100m final, running 10.75, but narrowly missed out on qualification for the 200m final.
In both the 400m and 110m Hurdles, Sam qualified for the finals by taking 2nd place in both of his heats. So two finals awaited him the following day.
In the 100m Final, Adam, running in Lane 1, took 7th place, just 0.31 seconds from a medal placing.
For Sam it was the 400m Hurdles Final first. In blustery conditions, he just missed out on the medals by coming home in 4th place. However, it was in a season’s Best Time of 51:76, also his second best time ever!
In the 110mH final he was determined to push for a medal, though on paper there were 4 athletes that were faster than him. Sam put in a great race to take 3rd place and claim a National Championship Bronze Medal! His time was 14:73.
It is an amazing honour and challenge to even qualify for an event such as this, so for C&C to have three athletes there, and two medalists, is a great achievement. Well done to both athletes and coaches.
