Elson & Gray at the Cross Internacional de Italica

The Cross Italica in Seville, Spain is one of the premier cross country events in Europe and had moved forward to 12 November this year, providing an opportunity for athletes to race two weeks before the UK Cross Challenge and European Trial at Liverpool on 25 November.

England Athletics team manager Eamonn Martin said, “Our hopes as a team are to give the athletes competing every advantage and opportunity to achieve their goal of making the GB team for the European Cross Country Championships in Brussels on 10 December.”

England Athletics fielded a men’s team of four, of which 50% were C&C athletes – Jack Gray and Callum Elson competing in this 9.9km cross country race.

The race drew international talent, with Kenyan athletes Kwemoi and Chepkwony finishing on 29:09, with Kwizera of Burundi in third on 29:11.

Of the GB athletes, Ellis Cross finished 13th in 30:37, Jack Gray 20th in 31:02 and Callum Elson 23rd in 31:15.

Congratulations to Jack and Callum for strong performances in this truly incredibly competitive international event.
