C&C Weekend Winners

An action-packed weekend for C&C athletes competing home and away….

STEF WINS BRITISH MASTERS GOLD!

Stef Godfrey ran in the British Masters Half Marathon Championships held in Folkestone, Kent, last weekend. These Championships are an annual event open to Masters Athletes from all over Britain, who compete against each other in five-year age bands. Running into a strong headwind for the first 5 miles, the runners then faced the challenge of a long uphill towards the finish. However, Stef completed the course in 1:34.56, to claim first place in her W55 Age Group.
Fantastic running, well done Stef!
ALDERSHOT ROAD RELAYS
C&C’s Senior Men’s ‘A’ team won silver medals at the South of England 6 Stage Road Relays held at Aldershot on Saturday (each leg is of 6k in distance). Out of 107 teams, they finished runner-up, exactly 1 minute behind winners Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers, who set a new course record. Second place is C&C’s best ever Senior Mens’ performance at this event. Our Senior Men’s ‘B’ team came an amazing 21st!
In two weeks time, C&C will have teams across the age groups competing in the National Road Relays at Sutton Park, Birmingham. The club did very well at this event last year, and we have high hopes for another good showing this time around. To quote Jack Gray, who ran the 3rd fastest leg out of everyone there on Saturday (and that’s a lot of legs!),
“We will go to Birmingham in a confident mood, and we mean business!”
Well done to all those competing at Aldershot, and best of luck again for the Nationals.
IAN WINS EUROPEAN MASTERS GOLD!
Ian “Willy” Williamson, travelled to Italy to compete in the 1500m at the European Masters T&F Championships.
He had a heat to get through on the Friday. Even though this was held early in the day, the conditions were still difficult, very hot and humid. The race was steady and tactical, but Ian controlled it from the front, and qualified for the final fairly comfortably.
The final was also very tactical, with a slow first 800m, A Spanish athlete who had won the other heat, made a big move at 650m that split the whole field. Ian went with him and sat on his shoulder, tracking him through to 300m left to go. At this point Ian kicked hard, resulting in a 57 second final lap. This was too much for the Spaniard, and everyone else, as Ian won by a clear 2 seconds.
So Ian ends the season as European Champion and top of the U.K. M40 rankings for both the 1500m and 3000m. This is all the more amazing as Ian enters the M45 age group very soon! It’s a reward for a lot of hard training, and Ian feels that being part of a great C&C training group has helped tremendously in his successes.
Congratulations Ian, what an amazing season!
In Berlin, Ben Leaman ran one of C&C’s fastest-ever marathon times – 2:23.04. Not far behind him were Rob Mahen and Axel Finke in 2:32.54, and 2:46.00 respectively. Amazing running!
Also, fantastic results in the North Norfolk Relay!
The C&C Masters Team were the FIRST masters team home!
The C&C Mixed team were the second mixed team home!
Hopefully more details to follow on this soon, but well done C&C, fantastic team efforts!
