C&C Superwomen Win Bronze at the EMC Final

What a day! A bronze medal for C&C’s Women’s Masters team (aka the C&C Superwomen) in the highly competitive Eastern Masters’ League Final in Bedford on Sunday 10th September.
It went right to the wire and the team finished on 222 points, just 3 points ahead of the fourth placed club, Chelmsford AC, so every event and every point mattered! There were some superb wins and brilliant team spirit as 11 athletes covered 40 of the 43 events/age groups.
Sarah McGrath gained the only field event league record of the day with a superb PB of 10.66 in the shot with a string of second places in the javelin, discus and hammer and a speedy 200m leg of the relay to end the day. Anne Moindrot won the triple jump in 9.93 and had a superb series of season’s bests in the shot, discus and 100m. Rachel Roberts was our sole brave 300m hurdler and went on to be narrowly pipped by 2cm to the win in the V50 triple jump.
Stacy McGivern won the long jump with a leap of 4.55m and went on to win the high jump in 1.36m, with a second place in the 200m in between and still had enough in the tank for a blistering first 400m leg of the relay. The V60s were a little sparse so Pamela Abbott got around 6 events, including a 3rd place in the discus with a PB of 15. 18m. There were superb debuts in the walks from Jacs Hayward and Fiona, following a crash course from new race walk coach, David Annetts, in the week before the match. Fiona also made her debut in the javelin following an even shorter crash course and Jacs made her debut as a Javelin volunteer retriever when a call went out for more helpers. Lowri Chatfield started the day retrieving shots as a helper and went on to claim a superb second place in the hammer and warm up for a speedy leg of the relay with a 400m on the track.
Our endurance stars, Stefanie Godfrey, Rachel Leah and Joan Lasenby covered all the middle distance events (800m, 1500m and 3000m) in their respective age groups in monstrous heat, an astonishing feat, with Stef also running the 200m and 400m and Joan the 200m as well as both running the 400m legs on the relays. They had great results all round but I’m sure they’d love to to share the races next year if anyone (over 35) fancies giving the track a go next season.
Huge thanks to Anne Moindrot, our superb team manager, and to our brilliant officials and volunteers, Carol Wright, Noel Moss, Lisa Teverson and Pete Thompson for giving their time and expertise, we could not have done it without you!
(Thanks to Pamela Abbott for the race report.)
