National Champion Elson @ Gateshead

Last Friday evening the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside saw some high quality races where C&C athletes were right in the thick of the action! The events were trials for the upcoming World Road Championships to be held in Riga, Latvia, later this year.

The 5k race saw Jack Gray, Jonathan Escalante-Philips, and Norman Shreeve all taking part. All had strong runs, with both Jack and Jonathan holding the lead at times, during the hard-fought, three lap, “technical” race. In the end they both narrowly missed out on the top places with Jack coming 4th in 14:10, and Jonathan 6th in 14:22. Norman also ran strongly to finish in 14:54.

In the 1 mile road race C&C were represented by Callum Elson and Alex Melloy. Callum’s outstanding year got even better as he took 1st place to become National Champion, and book his place for the World Championships! His time was 4:08.

In 6th place, but only 5 seconds behind Callum, was Alex in 4:13, another outstanding run.

It’s amazing to have C&C so well represented at an event such as this. Massive congratulations to the athletes and their coaches!
