Road running at C&C
We have a big road running section which takes part in many events throughout the UK and abroad. The standard covers the full range from impressively quick to really quite slow and the age range runs from late teens to 70s. We enjoy running and competing with each other and other people. We aim to have fun as well as to run to the best of our abilities.
We are delighted to welcome new members to the club. The best session to start is probably the Tuesday night road running session. There should be a group to suit you, and there are lots of opportunities to branch out from there. We meet at 6.30 for a 6.40 start from the University track CB3 0EQ - directions to the track can be found by using the interactive map on the right. Please come down and try out a couple of sessions for free without obligation. If you like it, please join the club; if you don't like it, we'll be disappointed but you'll have given it a go....
If you're concerned you might be too slow and feel a bit self conscious don't worry; most of us felt like that at the start. To benefit from the club's sessions you need to be able to run for an hour or so at a pace of about 9 minutes 30 seconds per mile. There are lots of people who run much quicker - well under 6 minutes per mile - but many of us run between 8 and 10 minutes a mile pace. We're all trying to improve, or, for some of us, to minimise the decline.
If Tuesdays are inconvenient, we also run on Thursdays. You will be made very welcome at the Thursday session (but it is not suitable for anyone who is a real beginner). We meet at 6.30, in winter from the Chesterton Sports Centre and in summer from the track (see the map on the right for directions).
Look at the Run Cambridge website for full details of training sessions, races, results, photograhs etc.. It will give you a full idea of what the road runners get up to. It will open in a new window.
