View from the Chair – March 2020

UPDATE: 17th March 2020 – At the present time there are no training sessions or competitions scheduled until at least the end of April. Following the advice given by England Athletics, the Wilberforce Road athletics facilities have been closed. Please see the Important Notice here on Covid-19 for more information on this.

Dear all,

The end of February was marked by lots of C&C news, some of it national, some local. Hopefully you won’t have missed the fact that we now have a British indoor champion: Holly Archer and a runner up: Tom Keen. There was a story on BBC’s Look East and write up’s in the local newspapers too.

At a rather more local level, we enjoyed a very lively Monday evening on 24th Feb welcoming our junior academy back to the track with 40+ new athletes too. We ran a mini-competition and asked parents to help run the events. Ric Park did the organising and it was a thorough success – even the rain held off.

If you were inspired by the evening then please email Vashti, our volunteers coordinator, [email protected] to put your name forward to help in some way, e.g. As an official or to help with refreshments at some of the competitions; and Steve Green ([email protected]) would really like to hear from anyone willing to help run one of the age group teams at the EYAL or EAL competitions.

As mentioned in January, we have made a good start reviewing the club strategy at the committee. I want to open this up for broader input – so expect to see something on this during March/April.

Finally, the Cambourne 10k is being held on 5th April – Book your place now.

All the best,

Keith Clarke
