View from the Chair – February 2020

Hello all,

It’s full-on indoor and Cross country season at the moment and as you’ll have seen from some of the posts on the website there’s been some great successes with multiple C&C athletes selected to represent England or invited to the indoor British championships. Congratulations to all of them.

The first weekend of February also saw Thomas Keen run a massive PB to achieve a British U20 indoor 1500m record in Vienna. Well done Thomas and all who supported him. A great winter of results for Thomas.

The end of February sees two events which mark further progress for the club. Monday 24th Feb will be the re-start of the Junior Academy outdoors at the track. Ric Park, the Monday coordinator, has decided to mark the occasion with a bang. We’ll be inviting up to 50 new young people from the waiting list for our biggest induction ever, and with the existing U15/U13 athletes will run a few field and track events using parents and helpers. It’ll be chaotic but it’ll be fun and will be a great way to get athletes, parents and helpers into the swing of what it takes to be part of a competing athletic club. Any offers of help, please email Ric on [email protected]

Secondly, on Wednesday 26th February we will have our first outdoor track booking on a Wednesday marking a new step up for our Wheelchair and RaceRunning athletes and coaches. They will largely have the track to themselves rather than sharing with the young people on a Monday and will have more capacity for our para athletes. Their equipment is now stored on a purpose built storage pod at the track, courtesy of the Orbis Investments donation.

Enjoy your athletics, there’s little winter downtime here at C&C 🙂

Best regards,

Keith
