View from the Chair – August 2022

Dear all,

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a couple of the athletics sessions at the Commonwealth Games.

The revamped home of British athletics, Alexander Stadium, was filled with nearly 35,000 people on almost every session. It was great to see the British public support and it reminded me how many people have such a strong association between major championships like the Commonwealth games with our sport of athletics. This is a great opportunity for us as a club.

It’s worth reflecting on how every single one of those competitors and officials started at a grassroots athletic club like ours. There were at least two athletes who’ve worn the C&C vest in the present or past and there were multiple volunteers still active with the club helping ensure the event could happen successfully.

At our grassroots level, there are still a few competitions to come this season – I hope you can get involved.

Enjoy the rest of the summer.

Regards,

Keith Clarke
