Staying fit and healthy during the pandemic

Staying fit and healthy during the pandemic

The club’s mission is ‘to promote community participation in healthy recreation by the provision of
facilities for athletics’ – and we are no
t stopping now…

We want all our athletes to come back stronger than ever from the enforced break.

Government advice is the following:

You should only leave the house for very limited purposes:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household.
  • any medical need, including to donate blood, avoid or escape risk of injury or harm, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
  • travelling for work purposes, but only where you cannot work from home.

This doesn’t help most of us athletes though, so working out indoors, in the garden or a local public park is probably required and forming a training plan would be great – please see below for lots of ideas!

Ask your coach

The first port of call is your coach – most of the coaches are happy to help suggest sessions that you can do. They may have already put information on a squad Facebook page, for example.

If not, please contact them to see what suggestions they may be able to offer for keeping your training going. Though please remember they are volunteers and may not be able to respond depending on their circumstances.

You may also be able to get some advice from your fellow club members by posting questions on the club Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CamColAC/

Join our C&C online Tuesday training and virtual 5k competition

Online Tuesday training

We are trialling online Tuesday training via Facebook Live, through the C&C Endurance Runners Facebook group, starting from Tuesday 24th March. Go to the group FB page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/candcendurance/ and join the Live feed at 6:30pm on Tuesdays.

This will be a weekly 6 x 3 mins session, as outlined below.

Before joining please carefully read all the session notes below, including health and safety. We are trusting you all to take this seriously and to be responsible for the safety of yourself and others.

Virtual 5k competition

To give us all a fun goal and some informal competition, we’re running a virtual 5k league.

  • Run and time yourself over 5k (based on your GPS!) – anytime, anywhere.
  • Submit your 5k time with gps file and your PB via email to Chris Hurcomb ([email protected]).
  • Each runner will be ranked according to their 5k performance against their PB.

Finally, please also remember you have the club as a support network. If you are experiencing particular personal difficulties at this time, please do reach out to us via [email protected], and we will endeavour to find ways to support you.

With warmest wishes,

C&C Endurance Coaching Team

There are also plenty of online resources to create your own training plan too.

Most of all – be safe

Please follow the latest government advice – the better we stick to the principles, the more likely the number of new cases will fall soon.

Your club will be back

Of course, we are very disappointed with the current situation although it is perfectly understandable given the risks. However, the club is still here and as soon as England Athletics advice is relaxed and the University re-open their facilities, we will re-start with our training and competition programme.

The club has paused everyone’s memberships for the period of the crisis – please ignore any reminders you may receive for the moment. We will extend the end dates as needed once we understand the likely length pause.
