SEAA Cross Country Championships – Parliament Hill 25th January 2020

In the region of fifty C&C athletes competed in the SEAA Cross Country Championships at Parliament Hill on the 25th January 2020.

Shannon Flockhart ran a wonderful race and was rewarded with a bronze medal after a well fought race in a time of 25:16 over the 6k muddy course. This follows on from wins in the U20w age group in both the County Championships and County Schools XC championships.

C&C’s Senior Men’s team finished in the top ten with the top finisher being Jonathan Escalante Phillips finishing just out of the top five in sixth place. Chris Darling, returning from last season’s injury finished in the top forty out of a field of over one thousand competitors.

Susannah Reid was the top C&C finisher in the Senior Women’s race placing twenty fifth in a field of nearly seven hundred.

David Dow continued his XC season by finishing twenty second in the 8k U20m race.

The U15 boys’ team comprising Isaac Rothwell, George Green, Gabriel Parmenter, and George Keen finished in fifth place with Isaac finishing the individual race in twenty sixth place.

Liam Conway lead the U13 boys’ team home with a strong fifth place. His time of 0:11:48 was only 0:00:06 away from second place. Team mate Matthew Smith also ran strongly with a finish in the top fifteen. The boys’ team finished just outside the top ten in eleventh place.

The focus of many of the younger athletes will now turn to the Schools’ competition with selected athletes participating in the Anglian Schools competition on the 1st February with the aim to be selected for the National Schools’ XC Championships on the 14th March.
