C&C triumph at England Athletics Indoor Championships

The England Athletics Indoor Championships was held in Sheffield last weekend, and C&C athletes had a storming weekend of competition.

Serena Blackwood, U20W, ran a PB of 7.84 in the 60m in the heats, with a 7.93 in the semis.

David MacQueen, U17M, jumped a PB to come fourth in the long jump. David’s jump of 6.40m took him to within five centimetres of the bronze medal, and places him fourth in the UK rankings.

Coming into the event, Leah Wagstaff gained a mention on the England Athletics website as the hurdles favourite, with the potential to build on her time at the London Games 2 weeks ago (not the Southerns) which put her in all-time top 20. https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/england-athletics-age-group-champs-preview

On Sunday the 13th she ran the heats (9.27 cruising through the line), the semis (9.03 pushing to the line) and the final (8.95 and being pushed to the line) – and equalled her personal best of 8.95 in a close final, only 0.04s ahead of the competition, to become the National Indoor U15G 60mH champion. 8.95 puts Leah 13th in the all-time list for that event and age group.
