Cambridgeshire Schools Championships – Peterborough 8th June 2019

Track and field is a summer pastime. This statement could have been fiercely doubted when the County’s Schools battled against each other and the elements at Peterborough on the 8th June.

The club’s young athletes were hoping to achieve the necessary standard to be in with a chance of selection to represent their County at the prestigious English Schools Track and Field Championships in July.

For the Schools competitions the age groups are named differently as follows:

  • U15 is categorised as Junior Boys(JB) or Junior Girls(JG) – School years 7&8
  • U17 is categorised as Inter Boys(IB) or Inter Girls (IG) – School years 9&10
  • U20 is categorised as Senior Boys(SB) or Senior Girls(SB) – School years 11&12

Charlie Heal achieved the necessary standard of 11.7 in the JB 100m. This was the 4th time that Charlie has achieved the English Schools standard for this event. This is Charlie’s first season competing for the club. Charlie also won the JB’s LJ.

OJ Parmenter was victorious in the IB 800m in which he also ran a PB. OJ already has the required standard for IB 1500m.

Charlie Knott once again achieved the IB’s standard for the HJ. He has had a great start to the season and is currently ranked 3rd in the country.

Junior boy, Billy White continued his dominance of the throws this season with wins in the shot and hammer. Billy has the Schools’ standard for both of these events.

There were also wins for:

  • Alice Lord – IG Javelin
  • Hugh Aubrey – JB Javelin
  • Luke Carney – IB Javelin
  • Stephanie Browne – IG Hammer
  • Isaac Rothwell – JB 1500m
  • Alex Melloy – IB 1500m

Ellie Loosely and Emily Talbot both improved their PB’s in the JG 1500m.

A big thank you is extended to all of those teachers, officials and volunteers that make the Schools competitions possible. For many athletes these events are the highlight of their athletic careers and are looked back on with fond memories.
