Road running group

We are delighted to welcome new members to the club. The best session to start is probably the Tuesday night road running session. There should be a group to suit you, and there are lots of opportunities to branch out from there. We meet at 6.30 for a 6.40 start from the University track CB3 0EQ - directions to the track can be found by using the interactive map on the right. Please come down and try out a couple of sessions for free without obligation. If you like it, please join the club; if you don't like it, we'll be disappointed but you'll have given it a go....

If you're concerned you might be too slow and feel a bit self conscious don't worry; most of us felt like that at the start. To benefit from the club's current road running sessions you need to be able to run for three quarters of an hour or so at a pace of about 10 minutes per mile. There are lots of people who run much quicker - well under 6 minutes per mile - but many of us run between 8 and 10 minutes a mile pace. We're all trying to improve, or, for some of us, to minimise the decline.

Our new beginners group (or close to complete beginners) who run slower than about 10 minutes per mile now runs every Monday evening (excluding Bank Holidays) at 7pm from the University track.  Please click on  Running for beginners for details.

If Tuesdays are inconvenient, we also run on Thursdays.  You will be made very welcome at the Thursday session (but it is not suitable for anyone who is a real beginner).  We meet at 6.30, in winter from the Chesterton Sports Centre and in summer from the track (see the map on the right for directions).

Look at the Run Cambridge website for full details of training sessions, races, results, photograhs etc.. It will give you a full idea of what the road runners get up to. It will open in a new window.

Marathon training Spring 2012

A number of people have asked about marathon training schedules for Spring marathons.  I've attached a possible schedule here.  It's based on high quality sessions with relatively low mileages, in comparison with some other programmes.  Every programme needs to be tweaked to meet the needs and availability of each individual athlete and we'll be trying to ensure that the weekly training sessions are broadly compatible with this schedule.  Please have a go at it, if you think it will suit you and modify it to meet your needs. Alan or I, or any of the other coaches, are very happy to offer advice and to add our own spin on what makes a good programme - please ask.  I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it.  Good luck

Neil
